Round 7 review
British Superbike (BSB) rider Luke Mossey claimed another podium in Round 7 of the Championship at Brands Hatch on Sunday 7 August, moving him up to 7th in the championship standings.
Mossey on his Quattro Plant TECcare Kawasaki threw down a marker in qualifying on Saturday when he posted the fastest time which saw him on pole for race one on Sunday. However, it wasn’t easy for Mossey. During the second Qualifying session (Q2) Mossey’s throttle cable snapped and he was unable to continue, he managed to coast back into the pit for his team to work on his ZX-10R race bike, which they were able to do with just three minutes of the session remaining. Giving Mossey just enough time to set a flying lap. “The team were incredible fixing the bike!” Mossey said.
For race one Mossey had a fantastic start and led for the opening seven laps creating nearly a second gap between him and Tommy Bridewell in second. However, Mossey’s team-mate, Filip Backlund, crashed heavily which brought out the safety car. When the car returned to the pits Mossey had lost his advantage and dropped to fourth. Mossey could not see a way through, then on lap 19 of 20, Tommy Bridewell crashed out promoting Mossey to third and another podium place. “I pushed hard and was gaining time. After the safety car came out I lost my rhythm and dropped several places. But I continued to push for the rest of the race and was rewarded with a podium.”
Race two Mossey finished seventh after the safety car came out and the race was extended to 22 laps. He was sitting in fifth until the final lap when he was overtaken by two rivals. “My tyre was just done and had nothing left to give. It was spinning up out of every corner. And that’s why a couple of guys came past me on the last lap,” explained Mossey.
Overall it was a successful weekend for Mossey as he is now sitting seventh in the championship standings and is just three points from being in the top six and earning his place in the end of season shootout.
“It’s been a solid weekend, I’m over the moon with the podium in race one and we gained something this weekend. I’m looking forward to Cadwell Park, it’s a track that suits me,” Mossey concluded.
Round 8 of the BSB championship takes place at Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire on 27-29 August 2016.
