Round 4 review – Knockhill
Luke Mossey and the Quattro Plant TECcare Kawasaki team had a mixed weekend at round four of the MCE British Superbike Championship at Knockhill circuit. Luke gained his first MCE British Superbike podium this season with a strong third place. In shocking conditions Luke rode a solid race to finish in 12th position on his second outing.
Luke was having a great weekend during all the dry sessions at the short 1.2-mile circuit. He topped the first practice session on Friday and was fourth in the second session. With the changing weather conditions Luke fought hard on the wet track to find a set-up he was comfortable with. The heavens opened for qualifying on Saturday and Luke worked hard to secure 12th place on the grid for the opening Superbike race.
Luke had a steady start in race one and dropped back to 14th after lap one. The safety car was deployed on lap five after an incident at the Hairpin between Shane Byrne and Jake Dixon. This bunched the riders together and Luke took full advantage of this on the re-start. He was up to sixth by lap ten and had a podium in sight. Luke was able to tuck underneath Michael Laverty and John Hopkins when they came together at the Hairpin which put him into third. He kept his head down and set some strong lap times to finally secure his first podium of the season at the end of the 30-lap race, with a third position.
The 23-year-old from Cambridge moved up the grid for race two and was positioned on the front row in second place. The rain came down mid-afternoon and the second race was declared wet. Luke is not very confident in the wet conditions and he rode a very clever race to bring the Quattro TECcare Kawasaki home in 12th position.
