Luke Mossey dominated Brands Hatch Indy on Monday 17 April, winning both races for the first time in his career.

Mossey started race one second on the grid and capaitalised on pole position starter James Ellison, McAMS Yamaha, crashing out on the twelfth lap. After a battle at the front, Mossey drew clear to win the race by 3.529secs, ahead of JG Speedfit Kawasaki teammate Leon Haslam and Tyco BMW Motorrad rider Christian Iddon.

At the start of the season Mossey’s aim was to claim top spot on the podium at least once, having never made it there in his BSB career.

Speaking after his first race win, Mossey said: “James set a really strong pace at the start and I wasn’t outside of my comfort zone, but I was getting close. It was unfortunate for James to crash out and I was a little bit lost for the first few laps out at the front on my own.

“I was quite surprised to win by three and a half seconds, but to win our first race like that at a local circuit, I’m just over the moon and I want more.”

Mossey didn’t have to wait long to turn one win in to two, as he piped Iddon to victory by 0.758secs in the second race of the day. Starting second on the grid and fresh from victory, Mossey was the one to beat. However, he made home advantage count and made the day a dream double.

At the end of the day’s racing, Mossey said: “I was over the moon with the first win and I would’ve been happy to come in the top five in race two, just to increase my championship points. To have two wins come at once and my first wins in my superbike career, I just can’t thank my team enough.

“We’ve really done our homework this weekend and I hope that we can build on this. I’ve never had such a strong start to a season and that’s including my supersport career. I’m looking forward to Oulton Park now and hopefully we can maintain this speed.”

The BSB Championship standings look even more promising for Mossey, with only five points separating Haslam in first and Mossey in second.

With such a promising race for the young rider, attention now turns to the next race in Oulton Park on 29 April – 01 May.
