It was a tough weekend at Brands Hatch for BSB rider Luke Mossey on 20-22 July, after crashing out in race one and finishing 13thin the later race.

The racer started strongly at round six this weekend, topping the timesheet in Saturday’s Free Practice 3 session. He followed that up by qualifying sixth on the grid for race one.

Mossey was in the hunt in race one, staying in sixth, but the heat of the track played havoc with his tyres and he was unable to find the grip he needed. On the eighth lap of the 20-lap race, as he entered Stirling’s Bend, he lost the front end of the bike and crashed out. “I really struggled with grip today in the hot conditions; I just couldn’t get the tyres to work with my riding style. The front end for me had the least grip, and I crashed out of race one because of that,” said the rider, who was sent to the medical centre with a damaged elbow, but was soon given the all clear to compete in race two.

Race two saw Mossey start ninth on the grid, but due to the grip issues he’d been suffering, he was unable to fight his way forward and started slipping down the order – he passed the chequered flag in 12th.

“I’m disappointed with how the weekend went, as I felt so good and confident on the bike during practice and qualifying. I was hoping to secure two strong results,” explained Mossey. “I am gutted as I just need some luck and a couple of strong results to give me a confidence boost. I hope at Thruxton we can start to build on something and get the results that we deserve.”

JG Speedfit Kawasaki Team Manager, Jack Valentine, was more positive about Mossey’s weekend: “Luke was back on the pace this weekend and showed that he could put in some good lap times during the weekend. We just need him to work on some minor points during the practice sessions to iron out any issues he is having early on in the weekend. I am pleased to see he went out in race two, after his crash, with confidence, and we are looking forward to getting to Thruxton,” he concluded.

Round seven is taking place at Thruxton on 3-5 August. Mossey has had success at the Hampshire circuit in the past and will want to get back to winning ways.
