Mossey advises Mission Motorsport on pioneering motorbike programme

British Superbike Showdown contender Luke Mossey has visited the headquarters of the Armed Forces’ motorsport charity to discuss its new two-wheeled venture for recovering service personnel.

Funded in part by Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion, Mission Motorsport provides respite, rehabilitation, recreational opportunities and training through motorsport to those affected by military operations. The charity aims to get their beneficiaries back into employment after being medically discharged from the Armed Forces.

Mossey, who finished an impressive sixth in only his second British Superbike Championship this season, met some beneficiaries during a tour of the charity’s workshops near Wantage, Oxfordshire.

Mission Motorsport’s co-founder and CEO, James Cameron, said: “It’s a real coup for us to have spoken to a rider of Luke’s calibre to help shape our newest programme on two wheels. We are helping quite a few motorbike enthusiasts and it’s fantastic that some of them got to meet the hot young talent in British Superbikes. The programme is in the planning stages but we hope the support of riders like Luke will enable it to flourish in the years to come.”

Mossey, who’s 24 and from Cambridgeshire, spoke to some of the beneficiaries about the injuries they’ve endured and the difference that Mission Motorsport is making to their lives.

Luke commented: “It was pretty humbling to meet people who’ve been brave enough to serve our country. I ride at 170mph during races and have had my fair share of painful accidents, but that’s nothing compared to the challenges these people have faced and overcome. It was great to see how the practical opportunities that the charity offers can give them a new start.”

Luke has hundreds of trophies to his name having started riding motorbikes at the age of six, inspired by his father. John Mossey raced in the British and European 500cc Championships, and now restores classic motorbikes.
